Today, June 7, 2026, a cycling tour was held to mark World Bicycle Day, organized by the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica Podravina County.
The cycling tour was organized as part of the "Amazon of Europe Bike Trail HU-HR" project, implemented under the Interreg Hungary – Croatia Program 2021 – 2027. The project aims to improve the services of the internationally significant Amazon of Europe Bike Trail cycling route within the Croatian-Hungarian cross-border area, and to integrate the local tourism offer into a sustainable cross-border tourism product. The project contributes to the sustainable use and promotion of the values of the UNESCO Mura–Drava–Danube Transboundary Biosphere Reserve.
At the beginning of the program, the gathered participants were welcomed by the Director of the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica Podravina County, Tatjana Arnold-Sabo, who introduced the members of the Public Institution's project team, the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail HU-HR project, and the Public Institution's project activities.
The cycling tour was attended by the Director of the Virovitica-Podravina County Tourist Board, Martina Jakelić, the Mayor of the Municipality of Sopje, Berislav Androš, members of the Bor Cycling Club and the VBR Virovitica-Podravina County Veterans' Cycling Association, as well as numerous enthusiasts of cycling in protected nature areas.
The cycling tour started at the Visitor Centre The Drava Story in Noskovci and continued along the cycling route next to the Drava River through the municipalities of Čađavica and Sopje. During the tour, participants passed through areas that are part of the Mura-Drava Regional Park, the Mura-Drava-Danube Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, the Natura 2000 ecological network, and the European Green Belt, all of which form part of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail cycling route.
