Kick-Off Conference for the Pink Vills Project

Today, February 8th, 2024, the Kick-Off Conference for the Pink Vills Project was held at the Visitor Centre The Drava Story, organized by the Public Institution for Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica Podravina County.

At the beginning of the conference, welcoming remarks were made by the project manager and Director of the Public Institution, Tatjana Arnold Sabo, Blanka Celinšćak Mezga from the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, and Marijo Klement, Deputy Prefect of Virovitica-Podravina County.

Following the opening speeches, Vladimir Juhaz, head of the bio-research station, gave a presentation on "Invasive Alien Species," and nature guardian Karlo Fičko presented the Pink Vills Project and the activities that the Public Institution will undertake during the project's implementation.

Subsequently, Una Mršić from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Nature Protection Directorate, gave a presentation on "Activities for Controlling Invasive Alien Species in Croatia," and Valerija Hima from the Institute for the Protection of Environment and Nature presented the use of the "Invasive Alien Species in Croatia" application.

At the end of the conference, nature guardian Vladimir Ajhler showcased the equipment procured for the project and the Center for the Reception of the Invasive Red-Eared Slider Turtle.

The project is funded under the public call for "Control of Priority Invasive Alien Species Populations," financed by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.

The project will be implemented from November 1st, 2023, to September 30th, 2027, with a total value of €249,313.45.
