Today, June 3, 2025, in cooperation between the Public Institution for Nature of Virovitica-Podravina County and the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas in Koprivnica-Križevci County, five red-eared slider turtles (Trachemys scripta elegans) were transported to the Reception Center for Invasive Alien Species at the Visitor Center The Drava Story.

This is an invasive alien species that threatens native wildlife, so its removal from the nature plays an important role in biodiversity conservation.

Each red-eared slider captured in the nature and placed in the Reception Center helps reduce the pressure on the native European pond turtle caused by competition between these two species.
