Today, February 2, 2026, on the occasion of marking World Wetlands Day, and as part of the implementation of the project Preserving and Restoring Floodplain Forest Habitats along the Mura–Drava–Danube Rivers – LIFE22-NAT-AT-LIFE RESTORE for MDD /101113557, the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica Podravina County organized the now traditional winter cycling event titled the 6th Winter Wetlands Bike Tour.
Following the opening remarks, members of the JU VPŽ project team, including the head of the bio-research station, Vladimir Juhaz, gave a presentation on World Wetlands Day. The director, Tatjana Arnold-Sabo, and the chief nature ranger, Vladimir Ajhler, presented the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project and the activities carried out by the Public Institution in 2025. Subsequently, Vladimir Juhaz presented the current results of the winter waterbird census in the Virovitica-Podravina County area, in which the employees of the Public Institution traditionally participate. In addition to other participants, the event was also attended by project manager Lisa Wolf from WWF Austria and project partners from Hrvatske vode.
The cycling tour started at the Visitor Center The Drava Story in Noskovci and continued along the cycling route by the Drava River through the municipalities of Čađavica and Sopje. During the tour, participants passed through areas that are part of the Mura–Drava Regional Park, the transboundary Mura–Drava–Danube Biosphere Reserve, the Natura 2000 ecological network, and the European Green Belt, which enabled them to directly experience the wetland habitats along the Drava River.
